And now a quick word from Twestival sponsor the Odeon bar!

Posted on: 11 March 2010 (2 weeks ago) at 1813 - Comment

After talking with the guys in the Dublin Twitter Festival team, being part of this event looked like a great fit and knowing that all funds from this event were going directly to Concern Worldwide and being administered straight to the people who need them was something that really made sense for us to get involved with this year.

We hope that everyone has a super night out on the 25th of March and we will all be on hand to help make this a Twestival to remember!

A little bit about the Odeon Bar :

The Odeon Bar & Grill is housed in the original Harcourt St Train Station and is open 7 days offering fine food and drinks. We have a Movie Club on Thursday nights, Club Nights ’til late at the Weekend, The Matinee Brunch club on Saturday and Sunday Afternoons and we show all major sporting events especially the Rugby.

You can follow us on http://twitter.com/theodeongroup to keep up to date with all our offers or visit www.odeon.ie

Oh what have the Americans gone and done this time…..

Posted on: 9 March 2010 (2 weeks ago) at 1642 - Comment

Friday afternoon in twitter towers was much like any other, until shocking news started to come in to our twitter stream. In fact it was so shocking that one of our designers passed out, clean straight out…

What you may ask was this shocking news that had unfolded in front of this poor souls eyes, who only moments before was thoroughly engrossed in his weekly design blog…. well…. the title of this post points to the culprit… or rather… culprits.

Friday afternoon saw American twestival organisers lay down a challenge which can be seen here, however, if you are of a faint disposition (as per our now recovering deisgner mentioned above) then we have sumarised their taunt into the next paragraph…

We over here at San Francisco (twestival organsier’s) don’t like to brag about how amazing we are, but have you seen our amazing sponsors lately?

However, that’s not really the point - we would like to issue a challenge to all other Twestival Cities. The challenge you ask?

Let’s see who can raise the most money before March 25!….

So, as I usually do at this time of day, I beg you and ask you to donate to the Dub Twestival to help us win this challenge from our American brothers and sisters!

And how can you help defend the Irish Twestival I hear you ask… well, if you know a sponsor that wants to get involved,  a friend that could do with a great night out or simply that you your very good self would just love to help Concern Worldwide, then click here and buy a ticket

For sponsorship information please contact @dubtwestival
To run a collection within work or some other ingenious fundraising solution please contact @dubtwestival

We’d all like thank you for making the Dublin Twestival a great success, on the night itself, nearly €900 was raised, and this doesn’t include ticket sales, donations or sponorship, this was just raised on raffle ticket sales and money raised on the night!

We are waiting to receive all the donations before annoucing the final figure, we should have this in the next few days. In the meantime check out some of the photos taken from the night!

You can see more taken by Hilari here, and by Sylvie here.

We’d especially like to thank:  Karl Spain, Brian Greene, DJ Wozzy, Dj Spider Liz & Laura and the bucket shakers from Barnardos, you rock !

How the funds will be used

As we wait to the collect all the money from the various sources, ticket sales, sponsorship, and donations. We’d like to outline how the money collected will be used by Barnardos, this is a breakdown of what the money can be spent to improve a child’s life.
  • €10 per month could buy educational toys for our toy libraries;
  • €21 per month could buy essential material for our Children’s Book Clubs;
  • €44 per month could provide regular bereavement counselling for a child;
  • €50 per month could provide ongoing breakfast support in one of our breakfast clubs.
Remember you can still donate money on mycharity.ie even a small amount of a few euros will make a huge difference, remember it’s only the price of a coffee or two which could make a huge difference to someone who deserves a better life!

Online ticket sales are now close, there will, however, be a number of limited tickets available at the door, but please get there early to make sure you can get in.

We all look forward to  seeing you all!

Bright ideas from the twitterati for fundraising!

After a flurry of tweets back on forth from Siobhan Cully of Marketing Elves, a plan had been hatched that would prove to be very interesting indeed for this DubTwestival and its charity Barnardo’s…

Siobhan Cully of Marketing Elves, and also a serial entrepreneur from what I can gather, had come up with a fantastic plan to help the Twitter Festival fund raising initiative.

After seeing Clare Boyles appeal on twitter for her lost dog, which resulted  in Rover being found after two days,  Siobhan thought that this might happening might just be re-engineered to help benefit in fundraising. So, with the vigour of a well thought out McGuyver plan, Siobhan went about setting up a collection system via mycharity.ie and began her twitter bound fundraising campaign.

Within the first 30 mins Siobhan had collected over €30 from donations from one round of tweets. Since then donations have been flowing through at a steady pace.

While working on this event, there has been a fantastic amount of help from the tweeting population of Ireland. Plans such as Siobhan’s have been very beneficial to this year’s event and it has been equally as interesting to see people come up with their own way of fundraising in advance of the event.

Thank you Siobhan and everyone else that has been in touch in the past weeks, and please make yourselves know tonight for your round of applause!

Have a look at what Marketing Elves have done here, and while you are there, make sure the system is working, and donate lots of money to Barnardos!
